Analysis 1 of contents page.

  • The colour scheme of the contents page flows with the house style of the magazine front cover and the magazine's website. The colours used are, red, black and white each of these colours have different connotations that will stand out to the target audience. The connotations of the colours used are;
RED: It is associated with energy, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. Red is used to indicate courage. Red brings text and images to the foreground. Use it as an accent color to stimulate people to make quick decisions; it is a perfect color for 'Buy Now' or 'Click Here' buttons on Internet banners and websites. It is also associated with willpower, leadership and courage.

BLACK: Is associated with power, elegance, formality and mystery.  Black denotes strength and authority; it is considered to be a very formal, elegant, and prestigious color (black tie, black Mercedes). Black gives the feeling of perspective and depth. Black contrasts well with bright colors. Combined with red or orange – other very powerful colors.

WHITE: Is associated with light, goodness, innocence and purity. It is considered to be the color of
perfection. White means safety, purity, and cleanliness. White can represent a successful beginning. In advertising, white is associated with coolness and cleanliness because it's the color of snow. You can use white to suggest simplicity in high-tech products.

  • The masthead is also on the contents page and is placed in the top left hand corner of the page where it is placed on the front cover, it is also the same colour on the contents page as it is on the front cover. There is also a date and issue number that is placed at the top right hand corner leveled of with the masthead.
  • Underneath the masthead there is a red box with the word 'FEATURES' in capital white letters, and then listed underneath this is the magazine's features and page numbers for them with a brief description underneath the article headings. Further down the page there is another red box with the words 'EVERY MONTH' in white letters in it and underneath is white is present in the magazine every month. Both the 'FEATURES' and 'EVERY MONTH' is down the left hand side of the page.
  • There is a main image that will be the main feature of the magazine and it has the page number on it, the shot is a a wide shot so that all four members are able to be in the shot. The shot takes up most of the page applying that this story is the most important. The members the group and present in the main image are presented as quite cool and laid back this is implied by what they are wearing and the background of the background and they on a high hill with the sky etc. behind them.
  • There is also a smaller image under the main image headed with 'REVIEW', the headline indicates that it is a review of a music concert on some other music for example a new CD or artist. A  new review may be in the magazine every month to give the readers an understanding music of upcoming music etc.
  • I believe that this is a good use of space and it contains all the useful information that you would expect from a contents page without it looking too cramped and tight together.

Camera Angles
The camera is in the same position for the main image is facing the group face on and is a medium long shot so that all four of the group can fit in the image. And all four members are stood in the same position, one behind the other but so that you can see them all. The smaller image is a long shot image so that you can see his full body from a distance.
Conventions
The music magazine's iconic music masthead 'Q' is also present on the contents page in the same place that it is on the front cover. It is placed at top left hand corner of the page as you normally read from left to right so this makes it easier for the readers to read. The suitable images for the magazine are also present on the contents page as well as the front cover,so that when the readers open the contents page they also know that it is music magazine. Related music information is also present on the contents page to help the readers know what music genre the magazine is based around, and they know what is featured. The fonts and colours used that suit their target audience and makes it more presentable to their audience, 'Q' has used big bold fonts that are bright and stand out more to the audience and the front cover and the font and colours have been consistent on the contents as well. They have regulars and features like contents pages normally do. The features are clearly visible as they have a title above them highlighted in red, with white writing, and underneath the the heading the features are listed are listed underneath. It is the same for the regulars as well as underneath the list of features the regulars heading and list is underneath, in the same layout and there is a small image near it to enlighten the readers further like there is for the features has an image which is bigger and therefore the main image.

*I*
The magazine is called 'Q' magazine and the publishing house for this magazine is Bauer Media Group which is a large German publishing company based in Hamburg.

*I*
'Q' stands for 'q the music' meaning start the music now, it could also stand for quality, and quality music therefore it would cost more than most music magazines as the paper of the magazine is like photo paper rather than just normal printing paper, and so the magazine wants the readers to know this so they place the masthead on the contents page as well,so this follows the house style. In the main image all the members are dressed in a similar way so they look as a unit, apart from you can see which member is the main member as they are wearing sunglasses. The sunglasses symbolise a rockstar sense which portrays to the readers the genre of music they create and the genre of music the magazine advertises.

*A*
Age
The age that the magazine is aimed at is those who are working and are 30+ years as you would have to know who the acts are in the magazine to want to buy it and that age range would know the majority of the acts.  You also know that the magazine is aimed at that age range as the magazine costs £3.99 therefore people of a younger generation wouldn't be able to afford that amount of money for a magazine.
Gender
The magazine is aimed at both women and men as they have used red and blue as their colour scheme and both colours can apply to both genders, and both genders may like the acts and their genre of music.
Social Class
The social class that would buy this magazine would be upper middle class and middle class as they earn good money and would be able to pay the amount that the magazine costs every week or month.

*R*
The contents page also connects with music, the genre that it is and the target audience. You can see that it is to do with music as there are reviews, features and regulars on music, also a main image of a music band. connects to the target audience because the target audience will be fans of the band featured and regular readers will still buy.
